So can we still use this? And keep track and compete again? It helps when I get on here and you are demolishing my goals.
I will get tomato soup to celebrate your victory...by slowly savoring each bite. And wishing myself a happy birthday with each creamy delicious spoonful. :)

whatever, yo
I reject the idea that you can set goals for me.
But 100,000 isn't too bad. Half of that is done if I do NaNo, and with the 35k I just wrote, that just leaves 15k. I CAN DO THAT IN MY SLEEP.

UNACCEPTABLE
you cannot possibly be done. I will not accept this fact. I am setting you a new goal whether you want it or not. It is 100,000 words by end of 2009.
I figured if each of my books is 450 pages and i already have about 3/4 of one and 1/2 of another, that leaves roughly 800 pages to write by my 30th birthday...which is 358 days away. Which means I have to write 2.2 pages per day. Google says that the average novel page contains 250 words. Which means 550 words per day for me. Hmmm.....or...to be depressing...about 440,000 words. So MY goal (to be a published author) should be to have 165,000 by end of 2009 in order to about on track.
So your goal of 100,000 seems almost too easy in comparison. Right? And if you stay on this track...you TOO could have at least 2 novels written by YOUR 30th birthday...since you have an extra couple months on me.
What say you?
Was this helpful? Totally depressing? Inspiring? Suicidal?

FINISH
According to a wall post on Facebook, my goal is 35k and yours is 20k.
Which means that, at 35,045 words, I'M DONE, B. And I reject your excuses for not having written, because I managed to climb Mt. Fuji (well, most of Mt. Fuji), and I still wrote a couple thousand words when I got home that night even though I was so exhausted I wanted to die. (It would be way more awesome if I could say that I finished my novel while I was climbing Mt. Fuji - I honestly thought about handwriting it while I was sitting around waiting for the sunrise, but I didn't have paper with me - but after climbing is still pretty cool.)
So, yeah, YAY ME. I will still keep writing for the rest of the time, but I'm not going to make a new goal. Just as much as I can get done.
KEEP WRITING!

what were our goals again???
Did I say 15,000?? Or 20,000??
You said 40k? I totally can't remember now! And it isn't anywhere on this BLOG DEDICATED TO THIS. Ugh.

I'm here...kind of
Look missy...I feel your scream without you even screaming it. Here it comes...
I AM VINDICATED!!
LOL
So...I am WAY behind. I was puking sick for 2 days, work got swamped, I went to Oregon coast with the family and had no time to write (while chasing my son around everywhere), and then Ryan and I went to Vegas for 3 days. I know this is just another list of life-long excuses but I feel at least one or two are valuable. right?
So I have been HAND WRITING cause my douche husband is always on our laptop and I'm tired of begging for time. Which means I have NO idea of my actual word count...but based on the few pages I managed to convert to type...I'm going to say I'm about 11,000 words...give or take a couple thousand. i've written consistently the last few days.
What has re-inspired me? Well, i brought 4 books to Vegas. I read about 90 pages of one on the plane and wanted to toss the crap out the window. Took out my "never-fail-to-rock" author and hymmed and haaa'd my way through it. Boring. Took out an author whose plots are always ridiculously unbelievable but entertaining and I think I actually YAWNED. So I decided that since authors are now disappointing me with their uninspiring, awful concotions, I better just work on my own. Which seems to be much the same but at least it means I am one step closer to saying "I have published another book." Because, my dearest friend, we know that deep down...Self publishing IS real publishing.
PS.

halfway there
19,200 something. More than halfway! I was on a roll earlier, but now it's hot and I want to go shopping and I'll probably go out later, so maybe I'm off a roll now.
But being almost to 20k is nice!
WHERE ARE YOU AND HOW ARE YOUR WORDS?!?!

boo
Okay, so I'm not as awesome as I was. I got just past 16,000 and then just stalled. There were movies that needed to be watched! Which normally isn't a problem - I can write and watch at the same time - except that I kept wanting to watch things with, like, subtitles. Reading subtitles and writing at the same time does not work, btw.
I don't know. Some of what I've written might be okay. Mostly it's kind of boring. I think there's a ninja in there though. And obviously NPH will have to make an appearance. And Stephen Colbert. And when I left them, my characters were just getting to Tokyo Disneyland, so I can definitely work some pirates in. It feels good to write though, even if it's crap. Hopefully I'll get my groove back after work tonight and get some words out before bed. And Sunday I'm going to devote tons of time to writing. At least, that's the plan.
I want to be the ultimate winner, but I will still cheer you on. In Japanese fashion. *fist in the air* Ganbatte! FIGHTING!

WHAT?!?!!
I was getting on here to give you my 7000 word awesomeness...only to have it be horribly defeated. Wow. Way to make me feel useless and incompetent and give me more of a complex. (sobbing)
Anyway, so you are at 15,000. Great job. Really. And if you get a package...and it has funny white stuff along the seams...ignore it. It's powdered sugar.
So...is this 15,000 any good? Cause we know how your normal writing is crap. Mine...I think I might have 60% salvagable. Since mine is for my actual book...I'm relying on you to have all the legendary topics. Please tell me there is at least one of the following:
1) pirates
2) NPH
3) JRM (jonathan rhys meyers)
4) JJT (jonathan taylor thomas)
5) Stephen Colbert
6) Jude Law or look-alike
7) Ewan McGregor or look-alike
8) pirates

oh, oops
Oh, sorry I haven't been around. It's just that I've been so busy.
So busy KICKING YOUR ASS.
Nearly 15,000. I'll be there before I go to bed tonight. I CLIMBED A FREAKING MOUNTAIN THIS WEEKEND AND I STILL MANAGED TO WRITE A TON.
SUCK IT.

Had to add this here so it doesn't get lost. :)
Miss Lauren, I have struggled in vain, and I can bear it no longer. These past months have been a torment. I came to Tokyo with the object of writing a great novel. I had to write a great novel. I have fought against my lack of motivation, my lack of inspiration, the inferiority of my words in comparison to so many other authors, all these things, and I am now putting them aside and asking you to end my agony. I love competing with you. Most ardently. Please do me the honor of engaging with me in a transcontinental writing contest.
4200 words biatch
Where you at huh?! I've been FORCING myself to write on my 15 minute breaks at work...which turn into 25 minute breaks. ;) But I feel like i am finally getting into the swing and I have to quit. Wish I had solid 4 hours to commit to writing. If you were here, I would make you come over and we'd get panda express and Ryan would have to take Kaleb away and we would WRITE like the wind. (sigh)
Well, you get something Japanesey food-wise there and I'll eat a PB+J sammich and we'll just keep pushing through....

Writing!
Here be the home of Jen and Lauren's novel progress. Different goals, same time period, EPIC BATTLE.
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE...WINNER.
Let's rock and roll. Starting on Tuesday, July 14th, and ending on, oh, let's say August 13th.
